The beautiful restored medieval Cité of Carcassonne is one of the main landmarks of the area but the whole region is steeped in history and is famous for ‘Les Châteaux du Pays Cathare’, magnificent ruined fortresses perched on sheer rocky outcrops, of which there are a number to explore. There are also numerous beautiful restored abbeys to visit including Fontfroide, St Papoul and Lagrasse whilst slightly further afield you can view the largest collection of works in the world by Toulouse-Lautrec at the museum named after him in Albi, close to Toulouse which is renowned for its' aerospace industry, architecture and famous rose-brick Old Town.
Conversely you may wish to sample the local food, including cassoulet, foie gras and magret de canard at the numerous restaurants and auberges in the near vicinity whilst also sampling the local wines. You can visit family run ‘caves’ where these excellent regional wines - such as Corbiere, Minervois, Fitou, Malpere and Limoux - can be tasted. If you enjoy traditional markets there are plenty around to visit and there are also the village festivals to be experienced! You may just wish for peace and tranquility and to relax within the splendour of our delightful estate. |
